I make abstracted figurative sculpture [art] seen through a feminist lens to reimagine the body and its representation, challenging traditional power structures with playful and surprising forms. By abstracting the figure, my sculpture can transcend literal depictions, creating works that speak to the fluidity of identity, gender and self-expression. Feminist artists have long used abstraction to break away from the male gaze, rejecting imposed ideals of the body while still engaging with its presence. Playfulness becomes a tool of subversion in this context, allowing my art to question serious societal norms with wit and curiosity.
Organic and architectural sculptural forms curl, bend, and spiral, fabricated with a wide range of materials and vivid saturated color. I love the democracy of public art and make large outdoor installations as well as intimate smaller works. My ongoing dialogue with material thrives on experimenting with ideas and technologies that extend the dimension of space and time, incorporating motion, time-based media, LEDS, and neon. I interrogate the possibilities of sculpture - intuitive, regenerative, welcoming and optimistic.
